Friends Choir: An Inclusive Choir for Grade 1+

This choir runs seasonally, and is open to all our friends, but is especially welcoming to those with Autism, Down syndrome, and other developmental delays. We will be covering some vocal basics like finding our singing voices, breath control and diction, while preparing for performances! Singing in choir is a wonderful social experience no matter your age or ability.

Music with Friends: a social intervention/school readiness program for ages 3-6

Picture
This independent program is based on the idea that music class is an intrinsically motivating environment for kids to build their social skills. It also incorporates music and movement activities specifically designed to help improve motor development and practice unilateral, bilateral, and crossing-the-midline movements.

We will be working on developing the social skills of confidence, self-control, focus, relating to others, communication, and cooperation, along with other skills needed to build friendships, all while fostering the enjoyment of music for its own sake.

This program can be offered by a support group, or in a school setting. No formal diagnosis is required. If as a parent you are concerned about your child's transition to school, or as a teacher would like to bring in someone to work with a small number of your primary students, this program is for you. When offered privately (ie. outside of the school system) a ratio of 2 instructors to 8 children is maintained, and mediators/support workers are also welcome.
  • This is a 1-hour drop-off program for 3-6 year olds. Children bring their own snack.
  • For schools wishing to offer this program it is a 30-minute weekly music circle format.
